Solar panel cleaning chemistry: what actually works at utility scale

Soiling losses are a real production hit. Wash chemistry that leaves film is worse than not washing at all.

Solar O&M crews used to wash panels with whatever surfactant was on the truck. Then someone measured production the week after a wash. Turns out soap film on a panel is worse than the soil it replaced.

    The three requirements

    • Streak-free rinse, no visible or invisible surfactant residue.
    • Low conductivity, the runoff should not compromise grounding paths.
    • Anti-static or hydrophilic finish, reduces re-soiling in dusty environments.

    Concentrate vs RTU

Utility-scale sites are usually remote. Freight per gallon of RTU wash is punishing. A 1:100 concentrate that ships in a drum or a tote and gets diluted on the truck is the operationally sane answer.

    Bird drops and organic soiling

A general-purpose panel wash will not lift concentrated organic soiling. An enzyme pre-treat spray takes 10 minutes and prevents the abrasive scrubbing that damages the anti-reflective coating.

    Why we manufacture this

SaraWest makes streak-free, low-conductivity solar wash chemistry for utility and commercial O&M crews out of Pampa, Texas. Drum and tote programs, private-label available.
